July 3-6, 2015 - Phoenix

Still in Phoenix - 7 days now.  The official word is that the locks will open at 8:00 Tuesday morning.  If we had to be stuck somewhere, this was a really great place.  We had a nice dock and park around us for the kids and two dogs. There was a good restaurant for breakfast (Larkin's - we got to be regulars there), an ice cream store, and a fresh produce stand. The weather has been great the past few days - cool in the morning (it was 47 degrees Saturday morning) and then warming later in the day.  We have spent our time just sitting and visiting on the dock, doing errands, and taking a few road trips.  Other than our trip to Niagara Falls, we drove up to Oswego on the 4th thinking there would be a parade, but unfortunately the parade was to be held on the 5th.  We went to a little drive in restaurant and ate lunch at a picnic table on the banks of Lake Ontario.  A few of us dipped our tootsies in the cool, clear water.  We then went to visit Fort Ontario.  This was used during the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812.  It was also the only refugee camp in the United States for victims of the Holocaust.  Another day we drove up to Clayton and went through the Antique Boat Museum.  It was very interesting with canoes, skiffs, antique boats and racing boats.  The girls even tried their hand a rowing a skiff.  Monday night the city had a concert (an Elvis impersonator) in the park with hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches.  The music was good and the evening was very pleasant.  All the boaters were acknowledged in the opening introduction.  We have been here so long, we feel like part of the city.  The people know us and we know a lot of them.  Tomorrow we will say goodbye to our Aussie friends.  We have thoroughly enjoyed our time with them.
