We left Hastings at 8:45 Thursday for a pretty ride to
Peterborough which would take us through Rice Lake
where we saw many fishermen. We only had one
lock (19) which was at the entrance to Peterborough. We spent four days in Peterborough which was a delightful town. We took the scooter down (for the first time
since February) and took a few rides around the town.
On Friday, we woke up to a cloudy and what would be a rainy day. Jennifer, Katie, Jane, Donadee and I took a somewhat rainy walk
to the famous Peterborough Lift Lock (about 1-1/2 miles – uphill part of the
way). Jack and Kayla rode over on the
scooter. The Lock was amazing. We have watched videos of this lock for years. We spent several hours watching the lock from
various viewpoints and then went to the visitor’s center to watch a few films
on the lock and the Trent Severn (and also buy t-shirts). We woke up to a sunny and warm day on Saturday. Jack and I took the scooter to a farmer’s
market which turned out to be the
biggest and best farmer’s market we had seen in some time. We then took a ride on the Lift Lock Cruise boat that
goes through the lock so we got a trip up in the lock and a trip back
down. We're ready for Monday when we'll be in our own boat. We had docktails at Freya’s (Last Resort - harbor hosts for Peterborough)
for all the Loopers (about 12-14 boats) and then dinner in the park listening to a
concert with Aunt Aggie, Always Home, Spirit Journey, Penny Pinchin’. It was a great evening. Sunday was spent doing chores, taking one last ride on Mr. Scooter, and getting ready to leave on Monday. The girls made friends with another Looper boat with girls about their age - Sequacious (John and April are doing the loop with their girls Allie and Katie and two year old son JJ). They all went swimming together in the afternoon and then took over our salon for their own docktails in the evening.
