July 21-23, 2015 - Buckhorn

We left Lakefield around 9:00 for a beautiful run across many lakes.  There are a lot of rocks in this part of Canada, so you have to pay attention to the markers.  Spirit unfortunately got out of the channel and hit a rock damaging its port prop.  We went through a total of 5 locks today.  We had to wait an hour at the last lock for house boats to be loaded into the lock.  Evidently this is the houseboat rental capital of the world, and anybody can rent a houseboat (boating experience not required!).  After the show of getting the boats out of the lock, we went through the lock and tied up about 30 minutes later at Buckhorn Marina.  The girls fixed dinner and we ate on some picnic tables behind the boat.  Wednesday we waited to see what the verdict was on Spirit’s prop.  The diver couldn’t get it off, so a tow truck had to be called to haul the boat out of the water.  They finally got the prop off around 4:30.  A nice man on the dock took us to the grocery store and Jack used the time to make some spaghetti sauce and chili for our dinners.  Thursday we waited around to see if Spirit was going to get back into the water.  By 12:30 things weren't looking good, so we took off without them.  It was sad - it was only the second time since Cape May we haven't "followed" them, but we'll catch up with them in a few days.

Nothing sadder than a boat out of water
