May 30-June 1, 2017 - Mobjack Bay/Deltaville

We left our anchorage around 7:45 to head to Zimmerman Marine to see a mechanic about the generator.  Of course, it was working fine now.  The day was very cloudy, windy and the water pretty rough.  We had a very tiring 6 hours.  At one point, we hit a large wake and the straps holding Mr. Scooter came loose.  This called for a stop in some calm waters so the straps could be tightened.  Along the way we got to see a Navy submarine being escorted out of bay.  They went right in front of us and the Navy boat accompanying the sub made sure we kept our distance.  As soon as we docked at Zimmerman's, the mechanic was right there and determined the problem was a loose battery cable.  He replaced the cable, and all was well.  This marina is mainly a boat yard so it was in a nice peaceful cove.  Our neighbor was a $3 million Fleming.  It belonged to the girlfriend of the owner of the Marina.  Jack is now looking for a new girlfriend!  After another visit from the mechanic Wednesday morning, we untied our lines and headed for a four hour trip to Deltaville.  The waters today were much calmer and we had a pleasant ride.  We docked at Dozier's Regatta Point Yachting Center and spent the remainder of the day working around the boat.  This is a great marina.  Very clean with a nice front porch across the front of the building and a nice pool.  Deltaville at one time was the Boatbuilding Capital of the Chesapeake.  We visited the Deltaville Maritime Museum that displayed the history of wooden boat building.  To keep boatbuilding skills alive, the Museum hosts a boatbuilding week every year.  Also highlighted at the Museum was the F.D. Crockett, one of the last large log bottom boats and only one of two still in existence.  There is a lot of history surrounding the small towns we will be visiting.  They give you an appreciation of the lives of the first settlers.  There were two loopers docked there and we had docktails and dinner with Jeff and Izzy (Izzy R) and Derek and Lori (Donna Mae).
