June 2-3, 2017 - Urbanna, Virginia

We left Deltaville around 9:00 am for a two hour trip up the Rappahannock River and then to Urbanna Creek.  We anchored just across from the town of Urbanna.  We quickly took the dinghy to the dock and walked into town.  Back in 1649 this town was known for its tobacco growth.  The visitors center is the historic Scottish Factory Store built in 1766 which sits at the top of a hill known as Prettyman's Rolling Road where tobacco was rolled to and from the harbor.  There was quite a bit of activity around the town, but not many stores or restaurants.  There was supposed to be a trolley, but it wasn't running Thursday (evidently in a small town you can do what you want regardless of what the information states).  We did find an old fashioned drug store and soda fountain, so we treated ourselves to a chocolate milk shake.  Saturday there was an arts and crafts festival which brought a lot of people to town.  The trolley was running so we hopped on and rode out to the Hewick Plantation (one of 2 plantations in the town) where the festival was held.  We wandered around for a while and then sat in the food tent and listened to a father/daughter duo that was very good.  The father played the keyboard, the daughter sang.  When we got back to the boat, we realized the anchor had moved (first time that has happened) and we were in the middle of some crab pots.  We moved the boat, only to move again.  So, we moved a third time.  We went back into town for dinner and were happy that the boat was where it was supposed to be when we got back.
