We left Rock Hall around 8:20 and traveled up the Chesapeake
Bay. Chesapeake Bay is a great area
because there are so many rivers that feed off the main Bay making it very
convenient for people from the big cities to travel by boat or car for a
weekend. The scenery along our run was
very pretty and the weather was great.
We entered the C&D Canal which is a 12 mile canal that connects
Chesapeake Bay to Delaware River. The
C&D is exactly that – a 12 mile straight stretch of narrow channel. We passed Chesapeake City early in the
afternoon and decided to keep going to Delaware City (thereby entering another
state). When we docked at Delaware City,
it was hot and we turned the AC on.
After attending a weather meeting in the marina office, we came out to
pouring rain and cold temperatures. We
just tucked in for the night. Against the advice of the dockmaster, we left Delaware City
at 7:15 the next morning. The weather wasn’t great –
windy and a little foggy and cold. The
water was a little choppy. The entire
day was gray and cloudy. We arrived at Utsch's Marina
in Cape May at 2:15. We walked to Lobster
House restaurant with Jack and Jane (Spirit). There were at Delaware City and we kept in touch with them as we headed to Cape May. Plus we had met them at Southport and had seen
their boat at Annapolis.
