May 9-11, 2017 - Southport

After a week, we left Osprey Marina and traveled about 2-1/2 hours to a free dock at North Myrtle Beach in a nice park/boat ramp area. We stayed here two years ago.  A little after we were settled, another boat came in - Heidi and Rene (Zwoi).  They are from Switzerland and were extremely interesting to talk to.  For about 10 years they had sailed the rivers of Switzerland, sailed from Africa across the Atlantic to Brazil (15 days), then around Florida, Cuba, and the Bahamas, just to name a few.  This year they are heading north to Canada.  We had a great evening with them.  Wednesday morning, we left around 8:00, entered North Carolina, and anchored at South Harbor Cove around 1:00.  The anchorage was near a busy boat ramp, so we had boats zipping around us all afternoon.  We went for a dinghy ride and then settled in the for the evening.  Thursday, we left our anchorage at 9:00 and were docked at Southport Marina by 9:30.  Southport is a great seaport town.  Many TV shows and movies have been filed in this area.  We wandered around, had lunch, and then stopped to visit Robert and Kay Creech (C-Life, also the harbor hosts here).  We later had docktails with Robert and Kay and John and Sally (Colorado Cowboy - new loopers).  We then attended a weather briefing put on each night that gives us up-to-day weather information and information we need regarding the conditions along the ICW.
