Dec. 3-4, 2017 - St. Augustine

We left Kinglsey around 7:30 (in the fog) and docked at St. Augustine around 12:30.  We were met by Tricia and Rob and Sam and Jerry (Tanuki - we met them at the MTOA Rendezvous in New Bern).  Tricia, Jack and I immediately took off to walk into the town and to stop for an ice cream cone.  Sam and Jerry came back for docktails and we all went to dinner together.  After breakfast on Monday, Rob, Tricia and I walked to a Sailor's Exchange.  We didn't find much but the walk through town was nice.  Jack and I toured the Castillo de San Marcos in the afternoon.  The Castillo was built by the Spanish to protect the empire they established in Florida.  It is one of the oldest standing structures in North America and is in excellent condition.  There are four diamond-shaped bastions that at one time housed about 70 cannons that covered all the corners of the Castillo.

After our history lesson, we went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Columbia, and then walked around looking at the beautiful Christmas lights.  St. Augustine is always one of our favorite stops.

The Super Moon

This college was founded by Henry Flagler who was
responsible for the first railroad down the East Coast to Florida.
First built as the Hotel Ponce de Leon in 1888, it was a resort
hotel for the rich and famous.

Beautiful building - the windows in the dining hall are
