We left Ortega Landing around 9:00 and traveled to Fernandina Beach (again). This time I had to get the mooring ball all by myself. We walked around the town again and had a nice Easter dinner aboard Linda Jean. It was our last dinner with Rob and Tricia as they are heading north to store their boat and head back home to Maine. I waved goodbye to them at 7:00 the next morning when they took off. We had a great time together and it was sad to see them go but we will see them in the fall. We took off around 9:30 for a beautiful ride to Jekyll Island. When we passed Cumberland Island, we saw a few of the wild horses walking along the shore. We anchored around 1:00 at Jekyll Island, took the dinghy to the boat dock, and called for a Red Bug Car rental. For two days we drove our cute little electric car (Mandy) all over the island. Jekyll Island is a state park with only 35% of the island inhabited. All the rest is state park lands. The island has no tall buildings to obstruct the beautiful view. It's only about 8 miles long and one mile wide with bicycle/walking paths around the entire island. We did some sightseeing, stopped for shopping at the Beach Village. We parked our little car at the boat ramp, and went back the next morning to continue our sightseeing. This time we hit the historic district. We were too late for a tour, so we walked around what was the original village with "cottages" belonging to the Morgans, Goodyears, and Carnegies, to name a few. We stopped for a pina colada at the Jekyll Island Club Resort, which is a beautiful old building. There was a croquet game going on in the morning when we drove by - with all the participants dressed from head to toe in white. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to stop on the way south again.
